Job Opportunity: Front End Web Developer, London

If you hate average websites, have a designer's taste and a developer's skills, enjoy taking a vague idea and seeing it realized as a working site, are passionate about improving the Covestor user experience, as well as smart, creative and energetic, then you will enjoy working at Covestor!

Role
Front end developer / designer at Covestor.com (Central London, UK).
A full time office based role to help Covestor deliver its software projects to a high quality level.
Design web sites, modify existing pages, develop prototypes and integrate with our back end systems.
Work closely with the existing engineers and project manager to ensure deadlines are met.
Partially own the front end code base and suggest ways to improve its structure and modularity.
Attend bug review meetings where necessary and take ownership of front end bugs.

Experience / Skills
•    2+ years of recent design and development experience in a web
•    environment - show us your sites.
•    W3C CSS, HTML/XHTML, Javascript, optionally and ideally also ColdFusion.
•    Familiarity with back end technologies such as SQL, so integrating web sites with them is smooth.
•    Familiarity with development methods and how they apply in a light-weight, rapid turnaround engineering environment.
•    Reasonable level of comfort with financial terms.
•    Experience in a quality focussed organization.

•    Design flair and excellent attention to detail.
•    Enjoys technology and keeps up to date with the latest innovations.
•    Good oral and written communication skills.
•    Able to prioritise and work within tight time scales to meet deadlines.

Job Opportunity: Client Services Manager, New York

Covestor Investment Management (CVIM) is the Registered Investment Advisory arm of Covestor. It offers its clients a managed account service with investment models based on the portfolios of the self-directed investors who share their positions on the Covestor.com website.

We are seeking a hands-on Client Services Manager to assume responsibility for CVIM Client relations. The successful candidate will manage relationships with Covestor’s clients and build the necessary supporting processes.

Responsibilities include:

•    communicating CVIM’s product offerings to prospects

•    managing the client take on process

•    providing ongoing customer service and support to CVIM’s client base

•    managing the sales pipeline and outreach to prospects

The successful candidate will work closely with the Trading and Compliance teams.

The position requires a rigorous, detailed and self-confident individual with strong project management skills and excellent written and oral communication. 

You will be passionate about customer service, having held similar customer facing roles for at least 5 years.  Prior sales experience is desired but not mandatory.

This is a key position in our New York office, one of the first hires for CVIM, reporting to the President.

Job Opportunity: Head of Engineering

We are seeking a hands-on, Internet savvy Head of Engineering, to lead and evolve all aspects of our technology development. 

Our architecture fuses state of the art, data intensive back-end components (including interfaces to third party financial systems) with features commonly found in social networking web applications.  It has been built using mostly open source technologies, including Linux, Apache, Postgresql, Java, PERL and Coldfusion. 

Managing a small, highly talented team this is a key position based in Central London reporting to the COO. 

Key Responsibilities

  • manage and evolve Covestor's technical architecture, including web services, back end infrastructure and third party interfaces
  • lead the software development team and process adopting best practices to deliver quality olutions to agreed timescales
  • design technical solutions to functional requirements, considering both the over-arching architecture and practical constraints  
  • plan and oversee systems infrastructure activities along with the Systems Administrator to ensure security, availability and performance
  • recruit additional talent to build out the engineering team

Required Experience

  • successfully built, managed and scaled consumer facing web applications utilizing open source technologies
  • proven software development life-cycle experience and infrastructure oversight within a web environment
  • expert knowledge of SQL databases, web servers and performance optimization
  • ability to translate complex business requirements into well structured, scalable yet pragmatic technical solutions
  • demonstrable project management experience
  • ability to function at both strategic and operational levels

Qualifications and Personal Attributes

  • 8+ years experience in a software development environment
  • 3+ years managing development teams
  • 5+ years web development experience
  • bachelors degree (or equivalent) in computer science or related field
  • delivery focused self-starter with a flexible attitude who thrives in fast paced teams 
  • hands-on leader with exceptional people management, coaching and communication skills

The ideal candidate will have prior experience in a "Web 2.0" start-up environment, be immersed in the latest web and social media trends and enjoy working in a small entrepreneurial team.  Prior finance experience useful but not required.

Job Opportunity: Senior Systems Administrator, Linux

We are looking for hands-on Senior Systems Administrator with a minimum of 5+ years’ demonstrable systems administration experience maintaining scalable web environments with high availability. You will be seeking a challenging opportunity within a fast-paced early stage business which is looking for someone to take charge of the scaling and management of its systems infrastructure.

The role encompasses a broad remit so you will have a range of skills including extensive knowledge of Unix/Linux along with expertise of systems security best practice and database set up and tuning. You will be a self starter able to assume full responsibility for planning and managing all activities in a structured and methodical manner. And able to rapidly absorb and implement new technologies and procedures.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Optimization and tuning of web servers (Apache), databases (PostgreSQL / MySQL) and operating systems (Linux) to anticipate capacity, ensure consistent response times and minimise downtime
  • Implementation and maintenance of load balancing, clustering and fault tolerance systems at both web server and database level to support growth in traffic and data
  • Managing systems security in an environment where security controls and practices are an essential part of the day to day activities
  • System monitoring and pre-emptive problem detection
  • Planning, documenting and delivering of System Administration projects


Solid Knowledge of:

  • Database tuning and clustering
  • Sys admin shell scripting (e.g. Perl, Bash)
  • Network file systems
  • Firewalls and OS security
  • Backups and recovery plans
  • Software upgrade / update management

Finally, a plus if you have knowledge of implementing web cache systems, horizontal scaling (e.g. database sharding).

The Head of Product Marketing is a senior level role responsible for owning and delivering the user experience of the Covestor.com website. The objective of the role is to ensure the development of a product that is the number one destination for serious investors to share their portfolios and for highlighting great performers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Customer profiling – understanding user needs
    • Market research, market analysis and customer segmentation
    • All site monitoring and metrics
  • User experience – direct responsibility for the user experience (all functionality and content) on the Covestor website
    • Ensuring the quality of the user experience and user satisfaction
  •  Product development – Developing detailed requirements for all website features and functionality
    • Prioritization of requirements in line with customer demand and business needs
    • Outline of deliverables for all website changes/upgrades
    • Managing all front end communication including usability, design and typography
  • Internal Communication – Working closely with the product management and operations teams, to ensure successful product delivery.  To lead the process of feature prioritization and develop detailed requirements for hand over to Product Management.
